You can know the subject better than anyone in the room and still give a presentation that is difficult to follow. Preparation has to include the audience, the sequence of the information, the amount of detail, the time available, and what you actually want people to remember when you finish.
Technical professionals often struggle with presentations because they are trying to decide what to remove. The answer is not to make the subject less intelligent. The work is figuring out what the audience needs to understand first so the technical detail has somewhere to go.
Meetings often lose time because the objective is unclear, the wrong people are involved, or no one knows what decision is supposed to come out of the discussion. A little preparation before the meeting can change the quality of the conversation once everyone is in the room.
